This house in McMinnville, Oregon had siding that was between 20 to 25 years old. Unfortunately the siding was Louisiana Pacific (LP) Lap Siding. LP settled a class action law suit years ago centered on this type of siding. The siding has a tendency to absorb moisture along the bottom edge then swell and crack. Mushrooms can even grow from the bottom of the siding. This type of siding was commonly used in this area.

Homeowners should be vigilant and keep an eye on the bottom edges. If the siding begins to swell, action should be taken immediately. We treated the siding on this house with a special electrometric paint along the bottom edge of the siding. This step fills in all the cracks. We then painted the siding and trim with two coats of high quality paint. The completed house painting will keep the siding looking great for at least 7 more years.
