Company Profile
The first painting job I ever had was painting the exterior of my dad’s shop at the age of 12 - for his painting company!
I learned the trade from him and by the time I was 16, I was doing jobs for him on my own. At that time, I was making more money than when I was 12 and only bought baseball cards and movies, and that was cool!
It wasn’t until I was 18 that I knew I wanted more - to build a company of my own! My dad was retired at that time and I was basically running his company for him. He was always available for advice, when needed, which was great!
When I turned 19, I went and got my own license and became bonded. If only I would have purchased my dad’s company from him, I could have had the CCB state license number 413! Instead, my contractor number is 169,003.
In fact, the only reason my dad’s license number wasn’t in the double digits, is because he refused to get a license when they were first coming out saying, “I refuse to pay the state to do business when I’ve been doing business successfully for years without them.” That was WAYYYY back when licenses were first being introduced! (about 1957!)
After a few years of doing business on my own in my early 20’s, I hired my first employee at approximately 25 years old – he happened to be another contractor who wasn’t busy and helped me for 2 weeks until his own work picked up again, but BOY!
Did I ever learn how great it is to have employees and be focused on sales!
But even more amazing is that same year– I met the girl of my dreams at the local rodeo! I can still remember the job site I was working on (or hardly working as we began to date! I may not have been as productive as I should have been)!
We married in April of 2008! As we were at the top of our bliss, we were beginning to hear rumors of a recession and whispers of a housing bubble…what would it mean for us?
I think I was in denial, as I had never been in business with anything but plentiful jobs and what the forecasters were saying was going right in one ear and out the other. The lesson there is that when you hear multiple analysts that know about forecasting, pay attention!
Here we were–newly married and 2 months later, found out we were expecting our first child, a boy! He was supposed to be born a year after we married - to the date - but decided to be 2 weeks late, ha!
About the time we found out we were expecting, we were living in the house that I had built with the expectation that we would sell it after we built it, but this was the beginning of the recession I didn’t want to hear about.
Meanwhile, we had purchased 2 more rentals and some land–when the recession of 2008 really hit. We were about as close to bankruptcy as you can get without actually filing for bankruptcy.
That winter of 2008-2009 -- with a baby just a few months away and having to move while it snowed 2 feet of snow– I only had enough work for just me to paint and one day a week at that.
Slowly, however, the work started coming back and I reached out to my all-stars and we began to build back up.
We also added another boy to our family!
Today, we are a thriving team with 3 crews of painters and growing, with a full time estimator and office manager.
We have a great time and love our clients!
We look forward to getting to know you and creating a long lasting relationship of being your lifetime painters!
